For our blog post this fortnight I will show you how to work out what 5.5m-3.27=?
Here is the question.
"Dirk was wanting to enlarge the long jump pit. The existing pit measured 3.27m long and he needed to make it 5.5m long. How much does he need to add on?"
I did these ways to solve it.
Equal Adjustments:
5.5m-3.27m=?
+0.03m +0.03m
5.53m-3.3m=2.23m
Reversibility:
5.5m-3.27m=
3.27m+?=5.5m
3.27m+0.03m=3.3m
3.3m+0.7=4.0m
4.0m+1.5=5.5
0.03 + 0.7 + 1.5 = 2.23

ReplyDeleteGreat job the question looked very hard, but your strategies made the questions way easier to solve. I am looking forwards to seeing more of your wonderful works.
